Hello! Are you still alive? Have you been eaten by a bear?

I like to head into the backcountry to explore, relax, and recharge. But, this means that I’m occasionally beyond the reach of cellphones. I have a satellite messenger for times when I’m otherwise unreachable, and I use it to update this website and check in with friends and family.

This isn’t a daily blog or a vlog or anything intensive to maintain. Its a place where you can see my itinerary, my current location, and read an occasional update from my journeys.

Why daftJackal?

Back in 2005, when I bought a shiny new XBox 360, I had to dream up a gamertag to play online; with a flash of inspiration, I chose daftJackal. Over the years, I used my daftJackal epithet to create a YouTube channel (which, because I created it in the early years of YouTube, I have a spiffy and rare direct URL: https://www.youtube.com/daftJackal), Twitter account, Mastodon account, and email domain.

So, when it came time to tie everything together, I used my daftJackal social media accounts and created the daftJackal avatar to achieve the dizzying height of self-marketing you see before you.
